Never knowingly un-ridiculous, the revived FOX series wrapped its fifth season with totally outrageous finale, "Behind the Eyes", in May 2017 – complete with two extreme plot twists và a happy ending for Michael Scofield (played by Wentworth Miller).

But then, less than a year later, it was confirmed that a "new iteration" was in the works.
So what happened to lớn Prison Break season six và will it ever see the light of day?
Here"s what we know.
Prison Break season 6: Is it happening? In January 2018, FOX officially confirmed that it was "developing a new iteration" of Prison Break. "It"s in very early stages of development," said entertainment president Michael Thorn. "But we"re really excited about it."
Miller himself also expressed an interest in revisiting his character under the right circumstances: "There"s always room for more, in my mind. As long as it"s a story that"s worth telling, as long as it feels justified & cool & edgy.
"It has to lớn be something that"s not going to lớn let the fans down, that"s going lớn satisfy and surprise. I"m mở cửa to the conversation."
However, after the initial excitement for the reboot – sorry, "reiteration" – faded, things started heading into trouble almost immediately.
Series creator Paul Scheuring left the project, và said that despite "desire... From fans... And some of the actors", he "couldn"t tell you another story about this group of people".
"Maybe somebody else can," he added. "Or by accident I"ll somehow, possibly, dream up another prison escape that"s new and fresh, but I would bet against it."

The new version of the series was championed initially by FOX CEO Dana Walden, however his successor seemed far less keen.
Following the network"s merger with Disney in February 2019, the newly-appointed Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier said: "There"s no plan right now to lớn revive Prison Break or any of the other franchises, but when the creators come with a story that they think is the right time lớn tell, we are so ready to lớn listen because those are some franchises of which I"m so proud & feel so fortunate that they"re in our stable.
By August 2019, it seems that plans had fully stalled, with the Prison Break writers" room sharing a statement that read: "Nothing is ever dead (remember when Sara was decapitated?), but for now, the elusive season six is not on the cards."

Hi, Prison Breakers! I"m just dropping in to giới thiệu some bummer news. Nothing is ever dead (remember when Sara was decapitated?), but for now, the elusive season 6 is not in the cards. But we love you và are so grateful for all of you. #PrisonBreakhttps://t.co/3Tw1MuRNqr— Prison Break Writers (

But in 2020, actor Dominic Purcell (who plays Lincoln on the series) spoke out on his hopes for a sixth season, explaining how the coronavirus pandemic opened a "steely resolve" in him to get it made.
"We are all in agreement that if the story is worthy it will get made," he said.
"I"m very optimistic with #socialdistancing và a fierce adherence to expert opinion on how lớn beat this catastrophic unprecedented event, we all as one will be victorious over #coronavirus – corporations such as #netflix are desperate for content," he continued.
Purcell followed up with another Instagram update (since deleted) that added more fuel to lớn the Prison Break fire: "Will season pb 6 happen. Yes....."
"If the right storyline comes along, I am sure the gang would be back to vị it again," said Vaun Wilmott, implying that any main character still breathing at the end of the latest mini-series could be back.
We know now that it"s highly unlikely we"ll be seeing Miller again, but there are still plenty of other favourites who are a possibility, including:
• Dominic Purcell (Lincoln Burrows)• Rockmond Dunbar (C-Note)• Robert Knepper (T-Bag)• Amaury Nolasco (Sucre)• Inbar Lavi (Sheba)
Sarah Wayne Callies could also return as Sara Tancredi-Scofield.
Mike Jr would be part of any future iteration, while the recurring character Ja (Rick Yune) is also a possibility.
Series original Kellerman (Paul Adelstein) was spectacularly killed off in the latest episodes, but that hasn"t stopped Adelstein from hinting that the hitman-turned-politician could still resurface in season six.
